The Amtrak Police Department's Counterintelligence and Criminal Investigation Unit is seeking a qualified intern whose primary responsibilities will be the gathering and analyzing of crime trend data collected from the agency's Records Management System (RMS). This data will be utilized for predictive policing initiatives to include the APD's “CompStat” program. CompStat is a multilayered dynamic approach to crime reduction, quality of life improvement, and personnel and resource management.

• Knowledge of report writing techniques, the principles of editing, and basic statistical methods.
• Knowledge of general research techniques and their application.
• Knowledge of modern principles of organization, administration, and management.
• Ability to collect, compile, analyze, and interpret data relative to crime trends.
• Ability to identify the problem and make recommendations.
• Ability to deal with sensitive issues and confidential information.
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply instructions and basic legal requirements to create a productive complaint process database and audit database.
• Ability to assist other employees in technical and procedural activities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to express oneself, clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and to edit written material.
Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to create reports periodically on an ad-hoc basis.

- Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution

• Knowledge of SEQL and Crystal reports

This position is subject to time pressures, frequent changes in tasks and priorities, and handling multiple projects simultaneously.

Current undergraduate student at an accredited college or university. Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
