Job Summary

The Local Network Engineer I responsibilities include design and preparation of Engineering Work Orders for all facility growth whether Land developments, new buildings, single line requests, Government & Safety, Preservation, Rehab, VDSL, FTTN, FTTH, FTTT, Road Relocation, augmentation projects, held orders and circuit/special circuit requests. Utilizing the following tools; FIREWORKS, BIDMASTER, NDS, FORTE, WFMT, NDTT, ARMOR, ACAD. Apply for all governing authority permits. Maintain positive interaction with Internal and External customers; maintain open conversation with Planning, Construction, Operations and all company departments providing high quality of service to the CenturyLink customers.

Job Description

  • Will design and build engineering plans in NDS, and support other engineering team members including Engineer II s, Construction Project Administrators, and contractors as well.
  • Engineers will be responsible for a given area, and will interface with customers (internally and externally) on a regular basis.
  • Work with Planning, BNG (Operations) and all internal and external customers, maintain budget, and assist with forecasting budgets.
  • Maintain positive interaction between all governing authorities
  • May lead cross functional teams, and will need to be a strong communicator and relationship builder. This position works with Planning, Construction, and Operations routinely.
  • Requires direction and guidance with some tasks, but will need to be a self-starter and able to take the initiative to get their assigned tasks complete.
  • Must perform work with minimal supervision for a designated area, including potential for any special projects as determined by management with-in the company
  • Be able to take a project from planning, design through construction to closeout.
  • Must be able to prioritize multiple projects and perform under pressure.
  • Must negotiate timeframes for completion and meet critical deadlines.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent communications OSP engineering experience.
  • Computer skills, including Email-Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, ACAD and Qwest Legacy systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed.
  • Valid driver s license, with a satisfactory driving record. MVR required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a multi-tasking, result oriented position in a deadline focused department.
  • Previous experience in outside plant, aerial, buried, underground and utility construction.
