Job Description: We are currently seeking a
Systems Administrator II
Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator s role is to ensure the stable operation, maintenance, monitoring and improvement of DDN IT infrastructure. This includes planning, documenting, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing servers, storage systems, data center environment (HVAC, power, UPS, PDU, racks, KVM, environmental monitors, etc.), backups as well as various infrastructure systems across the organization including Microsoft Hyper-V (2008 R2, 2012 R2, 2016), Microsoft DPM 2012 R2, Microsoft Lync 2010/SfB, Microsoft SQL 2008, Microsoft Exchange 2010+, Microsoft IIS/SharePoint 2013+, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. x -7. x, Openstack, VMWare vSphere 5. x 6. x. This person will ensure the availability of client/server applications, and configure new server hardware, VMs and operating systems. Where applicable, the system administrator will collect and analyze data, hardware and computer problems, take escalations from the Helpdesk and resolve problems in a timely and accurate fashion. In this role, demonstrated understanding of fundamentals and concepts with an ability to learn quickly and execute effectively are more important than hands-on experience or knowledge of specific implementations, products and versions.
Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights; perform file system configuration and permissions management
  • Integrate, Manage, configure and troubleshoot servers, including Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint, Lync, File, Print and Application Servers associated operating systems and software
  • Plan and implement server upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor-supplied patches; design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports; anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve problems affecting systems security, performance, efficiency, and availability
  • Manage Exchange database(s), replication, antivirus applications, messaging filters, and error log tracking; perform message archiving, retrieval, and deletion
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network and server configuration, mapping, processes, and support documents
  • Assist in designing and implementing data center/server room security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms, access restrictions etc.
  • Define, perform and test backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data, Servers and applications are effectively protected
  • Conduct research on software and systems (servers, infrastructure) products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts (interactions with vendors, resellers and consultants) and planning/implementation. Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems
  • Implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets
Qualifications for this role are:
  • Microsoft Active Directory/Global Catalog/Group Policy
  • Strong working knowledge of operating system patch management and change control practices
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Working technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, LAN, WAN, Wireless, VPN, Firewalls, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, 802. 1q, HTTP, SSL, SSH etc.
  • Hands on client/server and operating system experience with Windows Server 2008R2+, Mac OS and Linux (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.)
  • Ability to write typical system administration scripts in PowerShell, Python, MS Batch (cmd), Bourne shell, Perl, Ruby or other language a plus
  • Experience with ITIL and ITSM a plus
(Any Combination of the following is preferred)
  • Good working knowledge of backup concepts and technologies including Full, Differential and Incremental, image-based, transaction logs, VSS, consistency, disk-to-disk, disk-to-tape, replication, off-site storage, etc. Experience with cloud based disaster recovery a plus
  • Experience with system monitoring tools such as SCOM, ipMonitor, ServersAlive, Spiceworks, Nagios or similar
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SCCM, and WSUS is a plus
  • Working technical knowledge of current messaging and collaboration systems software, protocols, and standards, including SMTP, SharePoint, ActiveSync, and SIP:Lync/Skype for Business
  • Previous exposure to server virtualization technologies such as Openstack, VMware vSphere and Hyper-V
  • Previous exposure to server hardware and associated equipment, including servers, PDU, UPS, KVM, SCSI, RAID and I/O topology
  • Experience racking/stacking/patching Servers (Dell), labeling and dressing cables
  • Hands-on Fibre-Channel, iSCSI, SAN/NAS/DAS experience a plus

Formal Education & Certification:
  • College diploma or university degree; in the field of computer science preferred or 2 to 3 years equivalent work experience
  • MCSE, MCITP or CCNA a plus
